The book has been gestating now for many, many years. In fact it has transformed itself from one dealing with modernism in concert music, to one dealing with the response of concert music to popular music and the various technologies which propelled it, to its current form which is a global treatment of the ways that various streams of music can impact one another over time.
If that seems both overly vague, and overly ambitious, I might be inclined to agree. However, I do think there's a lot of specific insights to be gained from looking at musical activity as a whole rather than in seperate genre streams. Basically, I am going to treat music as an eco-system and try to parse out how each new form of music or technology requires adaptation on those that already exist.
I plan to base these posts on things I'm working on at the time which seem particularly interesting, whether or not they ultimately make into the final form of the book.
