Mixed Media
In the past decade or so I have been incorporating mixed media into my concert pieces. This can mean adding video to an acoustic piece, or to some other kind of stage performance. Or it can mean stand alone video pieces with music and words.
Harley

for Saxophone Quartet, with video and electronic playback
This piece was created for the New Tessares Saxophone Quartet. It was inspired by a conversation with my friend John Perrine
who plays in the group, when he mentioned that he had just bought a Harley. For some reason this struck me as particularly great,
since he is not otherwise really a Harley kind of guy. I took the opportunity to make the piece a more or less tongue in cheek ode to
all things Americana - motorcycles, UFO's rock and roll etc. This is a live recording with the video which is projected behind the group
in concert.

The Cave and the Cloud
This piece was inspired by a news story I came across which theorized that many prehistoric cave paintings were situated so as to
maximize the intensity of the echoes and reverberations available from the cave walls. The idea being that, in the flickering torch light
this would make them the equivalent of multi media experiences. Which made me think of the internet. Which made me wonder why we
go to so much effort to distract ourselves.

Lagoon
This is a piece born out of my realization that since the internet, things don't really disappear like once did.
